Shalfleet census 1841HO 107 / 408 / 8Liberty of West Medina, Isle of Wight Division, Parish of Shalfleet, Part of the Registration District of CalbourneNote: I have recently carried out a complete review of this census, and is should now be more accurate District 1 - There is no description of this district, but it covers Porchfield District 2 - There is no description of the district, but it covers the area to the east of the Mill Stream. District 3 - All that part of the Parishes of Calbourne and Shalfleet which lies to the West of the High Road from Calbourne Cross to Calbourne Bottom, North of Mottistone Down and Chessell Down, East of the Road from Chessell to Dodpits Cross, South of the High Road from Dodpits Cross aforesaid to Calbourne Cross. District 4 - All that part of the parish of Shalfleet which lies from the South of the Road from the Mill Stream at Shalfleet Bridge through Warlands Lane (passing South of the Church) Ningwood & Wellow (passing North of the Sun Inn) to the Bound Stone near Lee and Course which divides the Parishes of Shalfleet and Thorley. East of a line from the Bound Stone aforesaid to the Southern boundary of the Parish of Shalfleet on Shalcomb Down. North of the Road on Shalcomb Down leading to the Brook Road. West of the Road from Shalcomb to Dodpits Cross. North of the Road from Dodpits Cross to the Mill Stream at Newbridge and West of the millstream from Newbridge to Shalfleet Bridge. - N.B. Shalcomb Farm and Cottages in the Parish of St. Nicholas not included. District 5 - All that part of the Parish of Shalfleet which lies North of the Road leading from the Mill Stream at Shalfleet Bridge (passing South of the Church) through Warlands Lane, Ningwood and Wellow (North of the Sun Inn) to the Bound Stone at Lee and Course which divides the Parishes of Shalfleet and Thorley. East of a line from the bound stone aforesaid to Gravel Lane in the Bouldner Road. North of the Road from Gravel Lane aforesaid to Yarmouth Toll Gate, South of the Hamstead Shore and West of Newtown River. District 6 - There is no description of this district. It is a small district, 22 people, at the west end of the parish which appears to be a few properties to the south of the Shalfleet to Yarmouth road at Bouldnor.
